The Unexpected Lessons in a Sink of Dishes: Biblical Stewardship & Hospitality

Image
It was Sunday morning and I found myself doing dishes. As I turned on my playlist to get my heart in the right space for worship, I noticed the mix in the sink: kids' plates, everyday mugs, and even some of the fancy tea party dishes. What did these dishes represent? Food, friends, and fun. They were a testament to a weekend of people being welcomed into our home for various events—from a scrapbook get-together and a Bible study to a kids' playdate and a birthday celebration. My wife has the gift of hospitality , which is the quality of receiving and treating guests in a warm, friendly, and generous way. Whether it's a large party, a Bible study, or just a cup of coffee, we've been blessed to use our home as a place to worship God through hospitality. We don't have a perfect house with everything finished, but we do try to make it a welcoming environment where people can relax and feel at home. The Bible is clear on this. Beyond Riches: How Essentialism Unlocks True Financial Freedom (and Purpose)

Introduction: The Fleeting Pursuit of Wealth This morning, as I spent time in God's Word, a passage from Proverbs 23 :4-5 resonated deeply: "Do not toil to acquire wealth: be discerning enough to desist. When your eyes light on it. It is gone, for suddenly it sprouts wings, flying like an eagle toward heaven." Investing in What Truly Lasts Proverbs 23:23 offers a profound contrast: "Buy truth, and do not sell it; buy wisdom, instruction, and understanding." This verse challenges us to consider what we're truly using our wealth for. Are we simply accumulating it, storing it in silos, and deriving our self-worth from account balances? Or are we leveraging the blessi...

Unlocking God's Riches: Your Journey to Confident Biblical Stewardship As a financial coach, I often see people wrestling with their money, time, and talents. There's a deep desire to do well, to provide, and to build a secure future. But sometimes, the approach feels disjointed, lacking a clear framework. This is where the profound, liberating concept of biblical stewardship steps in. It's more than just budgeting or saving; it's a foundational worldview that transforms how we see everything God has placed in our hands. If you're ready to move from simply managing your resources to truly magnifying them for God's glory and your own flourishing, let's dive in. What is a Steward? Let's begin with the very definition of who we are in this context. In ancient times, a steward was a trusted manager of another person's property, household, or affairs. They weren't the owners, but they had significant authority and responsibility over what belonged...
